MECCANICA NOVA, 80 years of history in the production of advanced grinding solutions
For almost 100 years, we have been working on an international scale to design and manufacture grinding systems for internal, external and fully automated production cells.
Our 10,000 square meter, state-of-the-art production plant is located on the outskirts of Bologna and is flanked by a building that houses our offices.
Thanks to the photovoltaic panel system installed over the entire workshop and parking area, we are able to autonomously cover the electricity needs of the entire company’s production activities.
We employ around 150 workers, a well-balanced synergy of young graduates and highly specialized technicians with many years of experience in the field of grinding systems.
The ‘Research&Development’ unit accounts for 20% of our human resources, reflecting our commitment to finding innovative solutions in line with the evolution of the market. The unit focuses on the development of innovative grinding solutions for emerging industries that require increasingly advanced products, such as the energy sector or that of components for latest-generation hybrid engines.
MILESTONES
1937 NOVA is founded by the three Novarese brothers. Starting out as a contractor, the small company is set to become one of the world leading manufacturer of numerical control grinding systems.
1939 NOVA manufactures its first internal grinding machine.
1948 NOVA exports its first grinding machine on the European market.
1967 NOVA acquires the license to manufacture external grinding systems by the American company Van Norman.
1980 NOVA is the first company in Europe to manufacture an internal grinding machine equipped with its own NOVA CNC.
1993 NOVA incorporates its competitor FAMIR INTERNATIONAL, Turin, thus attaining a competetive advantage on the market and boosting the company’s value.
1995 NOVA establishes Meccanica Nova Corporation in the US, in order to extend its business to the NAFTA markets.
2001 NOVA becomes ISO 9001 certified.
2007 NOVA celebrates its 70th anniversary by lauching a new range of combined grinding machines for the automobile industry.
2008 NOVA inaugurates its photovoltaic power system, marking a big step forward in terms of environmental sustainability.
2012 NOVA establishes Meccanica Nova GmbH in order to consolidate its position on the German market.
2014 NOVA launched a new partnership with Rieckerman, thus further penetrating the Chinese market and gaining strategic importance in the country’s key industrial areas.
2016 The NOVA product range is expanded by the new grinding machine for the windows of CVJ cages.
2017 The company proudly celebrates its 80th anniversary.
2018 NOVA develops a new process for wheel hub bearings.
2020 NOVA strongly invests and increases it’s market share in the Renewable energy sector.
2023 NOVA delivers it’s 100th machine with specific technology for Bearing Rollers Grinding.

For many years, environmental awareness, energy saving and attention to our impact on the territory have been the pillars of the vision that Meccanica Nova is committed to translating into concrete actions.
Nowadays, respecting the environment and preserving the Earth’s future are issues that require a real involvement of companies, an intent which our company fully shares and puts into practice by adopting the latest generation of clean technologies.
At Meccanica Nova, Green Culture is integrated into every aspect of corporate life: from the conscious choices made in the production processes to the involvement and awareness of the personnel, who contribute to environmental protection through training and information on proper waste recycling.
Environmental awareness, for example, is translated into concrete action in our grinding systems, which are designed and developed to minimize energy consumption and waste through the implementation of advanced Eco-Friendly technologies. One example is the electrical energy recovery system during the ‘braking’ phase of the wheel installed on our electric wheel spindles.
Additionally, in 2008 we installed a photovoltaic system for self-sufficient energy production. We estimate that 30 years after installation, approximately 17500 tonnes of CO2 and 38,500 kg of Nox (nitrogen oxides) will not be released into the atmosphere.
